Legacy of Grandmothers is a storytelling project dedicated to preserving and sharing the stories of grandmothers worldwide, through the voices of their grandchildren. Through interviews with grandchildren, we explore the lives, wisdom, and experiences of grandmothers, capturing both personal memory and cultural history.
At the heart of this project is the belief that memory bridges generations. By asking grandchildren to share their grandmother's lives, we spark conversations that create space for healing, deeper understanding, and connection.
Grandmothers are often the quiet historians of families and communities. Through their stories, we glimpse the struggles and triumphs of women who lived through migration, war, social change, and everyday resilience.
Legacy is not only passed down in books, it's in recipes, sayings, love, and stories. We aim to preserve these intimate, powerful legacies before they disappear.
Please reach us at legacygmothers@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
There are many wonderful projects dedicated to collecting grandmothers' stories. Legacy of Grandmothers takes a different approach. Instead of asking grandmothers to tell their own stories, we invite their grandchildren to share how their grandmothers shaped them. This intergenerational lens allows us to preserve personal history while fostering connection across generations.
You can reach out to us at legacygmothers@gmail.com. Either share a short message or story about your grandmother, or just express your interest. Please leave your contact details, and we'll get in touch to arrange the next steps.
Anyone who has a grandmother or a grandmother figure in their life can take part. Whether your grandmother is still with us or
you’re carrying her memory, we invite you to share how she has shaped you.
The Legacy of Grandmothers is a community-
driven project, and we rely on support to keep it
going. If you believe in the importance of
preserving family stories and celebrating the lives
of grandmothers, there are several ways you can.

Who we are, what we do, where we're going.
We are a collective of artists, researchers, and storytellers, working across disciplines to trace the invisible threads that connect us to the women who came before us. Through oral histories, archival exploration, writing, image-making, and sound, we seek to honour and reinterpret the legacy of grandmothers — both biological and chosen.
Our work begins in the everyday: a handwritten recipe, a family photograph, an heirloom passed from hand to hand. It then expands outward into questions of identity, diaspora, resilience, and cultural memory. We are an evolving constellation of contributors, working collaboratively to hold space for stories that might otherwise go untold. At its heart, Legacy of Grandmothers is a slow, careful act of listening.A creative process. A research practice. A conversation across generations.
